Our line of publications includes books directed towards the international research community as well as books aimed at presenting new and timely media research to a broader audience. For the former category, we offer a rigorous double-blind peer-review procedure overseen by our scientific editors. For the latter, we use Nordicom’s long-established and unique position at the intersection of academia, politics, and the media industry to increase the impact of our books on public discourse, political processes, and education. We publish books in English and Swedish.
Nordicom’s strategic partnership with the Nordic Council of Ministers allows us to publish our academic books with digital Open Access and without processing charges for editors and authors. Our books are published digitally on the NordPub publishing platform under a Creative Commons Attribution-NonCommercial-NoDerivatives 4.0 International Public licence (CC BY-NC-ND 4.0), and print-on-demand copies are able to be purchased.
Aims & scope
The aim of Nordicom’s academic book publishing is to promote new, high-quality media research contributing to sustainable democratic societies in the Nordic region. This includes research on the Nordic countries as well as research with potential policy implications for the Nordic region. Prioritised topics include political communication, journalism and journalistic processes, media policy, gender equality, digitisation, social media, media and information literacy, freedom of expression, public service media, media use among children and youth, as well as media structure, economics, and innovation. With our books, we strive to reach a diverse readership and to have a positive impact both within the research community and in broader society.
We welcome quantitative, qualitative, as well as mixed-method research and strongly encourage comparative perspectives. All submitted manuscripts should be original and include unpublished data. Publication formats are single- or multi-authored monographs and edited anthologies. We do not publish doctoral theses or books written by non-scholars.
